Stu's Bio

Stuart is a language specialist who teaches French, Indigenous languages, and English to speakers of other languages. He is a renowned educator credited with bringing a new level of energy and enthusiasm to lecture halls and classrooms.

Stuart is seen here teaching French language to reception to year 6 children at the School of Languages Languages Alive program. He presented his dynamic new class Language in Action™, teaching teachers and children how to use the comic book as a communication medium in the second language classroom!

Stuart, a respected leader in the field of education, has developed innovative teaching techniques incorporating sequential art, language meditation, and drama in second-language classrooms. His exceptional coordination skills are put to good use as he currently oversees the trilingual linguistic program (French, Indigenous & English languages) at a prestigious private educational centre in Adelaide. His passion for education and commitment to creating engaging and dynamic learning environments have made him a beloved figure in the world of education.

Stuart presented excerpts of his thesis investigation of linguistics in comic book literature in Rockhampton, Queensland during his national speaking tour.

Stuart's areas of specialisation are classic European comic book literature, 1950s and 60s pulp fiction, television, and film, and languages created for the entertainment industry.

Stuart has undertaken two formal thesis investigations of comic book literature investigating the linguistic context, stereotypes, representations, and human rights in comics, as well as the controversies surrounding the creator of the Tintin character and his employment as an illustrator during the Second World War.

Stuart is currently conducting research for his PhD in Revivalist Linguistics, explicitly focusing on the revitalisation of endangered Indigenous languages, and working on his book project, which is an extension of his thesis investigations of the creator of Tintin and the controversies surrounding his life and career during The Second World War.

Stuart is creating a bilingual storybook adventure; The Adventures of Paris and Freddie, in French and English, which is set for release in early 2025!
